Greystoke Castle, Eden (By D0c.Col)

Greystoke Castle is a historic Cumbrian fortress dating back to 1069, once home to the Greystoke and Howard families. After centuries of battles, fire, and wartime damage, the castle is now being revived by Tom Nash, who is restoring its interiors and opening it to the public for tours, events, and community life.

The entrance to the castle estate is in the centre of Greystoke Village. Parking is directly in front of the castle. The Castle has a small cafe and toilets. At the time of my visit it had just opened and the owner was happy to let me film there.

Southmoor Nature reserve, Langstone Harbour, Havant, Havant (By macspite)

This was very quiet on a reasonable Wednesday afternoon at the beginning of October. The car park is reached after driving through an industrial area and is height restricted to 2 metres.

There is a road to the right that leads to a small field with parking which looks like it might be ok for a small FPV event, or you can continue to the sea wall which provides somewhere toi sit as well as a flat surface for TOAL.

Parking is £3.50 for all day - no shorter period is available, but it is free on Sundays. I am not usre how ofter the car park is patrolled.

There is a distant view of the Portsmouth skyline, Views of Langstone, Hayling Island and the bridges, a sewage works and industrial estate. Worth a battery at least.

Nearest toilets are Tesco, food also though there is probably a burger van lurking around the industrial estate. Fairly easy Access from the A27/M27, A3 and points east, north and west.

Silsden Park, Bradford (By Rick2522)

Located on Bolton Road, Silsden (near Keighley), BD20 0JY.

It’s a fairly large, open public park, with a variety of features: rugby pitches, a skate park, tennis courts, bowling green + clubhouse, a children’s play area with climbing frames and swings.

It’s open 24/7, all year round.

Pros:

The large open spaces (rugby pitches, lawns) provide good room for takeoff, landing, and maneuvering without too many obstacles.

Because there are fewer tall trees or dense woodland (at least in the main parts), lines of sight can be pretty clear.

The variety of features (play areas, courts, open grass) gives scope for interesting aerial shots.

Challenges:

There are built structures (skate park ramps, courts, clubhouse) and people will often be around — risk of interfering with public use.

Weather/wind can be a factor; open parks are more exposed.

The boundaries with residential areas might be close — you’ll probably be flying over or near private property / people's gardens if you drift.

Logierait Viaduct, Perthshire, Pitlochry (By karl60)

Logierait Viaduct over the River Tay — once part of the Highland Railway’s Aberfeldy branch. Built in 1865 with wrought iron lattice girders and cast-iron pilasters, the bridge carried passengers, freight, and whisky for nearly a century before falling victim to the Beeching cuts in 1965. Saved from closure by local residents, it is now uniquely owned and maintained by the community, serving as a vital crossing and part of National Cycle Routes 7 and 77.

Yes, you can drive vehicles across the bridge.

Bramber Brooks, Horsham (By martinto)

This location has plenty of pattern interest in the landscape, point the camera down and have fun. For landscape there is the South Downs and Bramber Castle in the background. The river meanders nicely here.

When I visited work was ongoing for the installation of a replacement footbridge.

Land owner permission was not sought.

Lancaster Rowing Club, Lancaster (By Crackerjack)

Located in Skerton, Lancaster, is a large weir on the River Lune.
There are trees covering about half of the rowing club but the half next to the river is clear above. Plenty of over-water flying to be had here and an Industrial estate on the other side of the river.

Mount St. Bernard Abbey, North West Leicestershire (By bryand)

You could TOAL from the road outside the monastery, but you get a much better line of sight from the car park. I asked one of the brothers in the bookshop for permission and he was quite happy. I came back at sunset to get the view through the windows in the tower.

The monks found that their dairy farm wasn't making enough to be viable, so they turned to brewing Trappist beers..."Beer should be liquid bread, not coloured water" ... my kind of folk!
