As with my recommendation of Barlborough Hall, this is the senior school to that, and absolutely you will need to obtain permission. It's history is that it has always been a school just its emphasis has changed from purely educating people for the priesthood to being a general secondary school. The site is usually occupied by staff most days of the year and I have dropped the pin on the road entrance to the main car park.Again, as an ex-pupil I found it easy to obtain permission but your mileage may vary. All you can do is phone up and ask or drop them an eMail as they are generally very responsive. A suggestion: if of the right age, is to say you are considering sending your child here and want to gain as much perspective as possible :)

Great views across the county from up here - if flying from the bottom of the hill don't forget to add the height of the hill to your max altitude setting. As you'll see it lies on the fringe of an amber area, which is a local gliding club, and is frequently used as a launch area by paragliders too, thanks to it's favourable updraughts, so take care to check for both gliding and paraglider activity before flying.Park on the road at the foot of the hill

I parked right next to the Locks following directions to postcode M41 6TZ on the east side of the Manchester Ship Canal. From there, a canal-side path led south and provided a suitable take-off point. This is >150m from the housing on the west side of the Canal. If you continue far enough south you can fly from just outside the Barton City Airport FRZ, alternatively you can seek their permission to fly within the FRZ.
