In the outskirts of Spennymoor town centre stands The Brewery Field, the home of Spennymoor Town Football Club and an important sporting landmark within the local community. The ground has been at the centre of football in the town for generations and remains a familiar sight to local residents and supporters.

The Brewery Field takes its name from the former brewery that once stood nearby, reflecting part of Spennymoor’s industrial heritage. The ground has hosted football for many years and has seen Spennymoor Town rise through the English football pyramid.

Today, The Brewery Field is home to Spennymoor Town FC, who currently compete in the National League North, the sixth tier of English football. The stadium provides a traditional non-league football atmosphere, with supporters gathering on matchdays to follow the club.

The ground has also undergone improvements over the years, helping it develop alongside the football club while retaining its traditional character. From above, the stadium provides a unique view of the pitch, stands and surrounding streets of Spennymoor.

In the heart of Darlington stands Darlington Memorial Hospital, an important part of the local community and healthcare services. Located on Hollyhurst Road, the hospital provides a wide range of services to people across Darlington and the surrounding areas.

The hospital first opened in 1928 as a memorial to the local people who lost their lives during the First World War. Its original development reflected the town’s commitment to providing modern healthcare for the growing local population.

Today, Darlington Memorial Hospital is part of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and provides services including A&E, maternity care, surgery, outpatient appointments and diagnostic services. The hospital also has a 24-hour Emergency Department, serving patients from across the area.

Over the years, the hospital has undergone numerous developments and improvements, helping it adapt to the changing needs of the local community. It remains an important landmark in Darlington and a vital part of the town’s history and everyday life.

In the heart of Darlington’s railway heritage stands Skerne Bridge, one of the most historically significant railway bridges in the world. Built in 1825, the bridge was designed by renowned railway engineer George Stephenson as part of the original Stockton and Darlington Railway.

Skerne Bridge carries the railway over the River Skerne and was part of the historic route opened on 27 September 1825, when the Stockton and Darlington Railway became the world’s first permanent public railway to use steam locomotives for both passengers and freight.

The bridge is particularly famous for appearing on British £5 notes issued by the Bank of England in 1990, celebrating the importance of George Stephenson and the development of the railway. It remains in use today, making Skerne Bridge a remarkable surviving piece of railway history.

In the heart of Darlington town centre stands the iconic Darlington Clock Tower, one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks. Built in 1864, the tower was gifted to the town by Joseph Pease, a prominent local industrialist and railway pioneer, and was designed by renowned Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse.

The Clock Tower forms part of Darlington’s historic Market Place and is a Grade II listed building, reflecting its architectural and historical importance. Its distinctive Victorian design, tall spire and prominent position have made it a familiar sight above the town for more than 160 years.

The tower also has a connection to the famous Big Ben, with its bells being made by the same company responsible for casting bells for the Palace of Westminster.

Today, the Clock Tower remains at the centre of Darlington’s town life, standing as a reminder of the town’s rich Victorian, industrial and railway heritage. These aerial photographs capture this historic landmark from a unique perspective above the streets of Darlington.

I took these pictures at the start of the Amazon drones but if you want to fly when Amazon is using the airspace. What I highly recommend on doing is calling Teesside Airport before and after your flight to let them be aware of you flying in the flight restricted airspace.

Bodnant Garden in North Wales, one of Britain’s most celebrated historic gardens, overlooking the beautiful Conwy Valley.

You can explore how Bodnant was transformed from a Victorian estate into the remarkable garden we see today. Follow the story of Henry Davis Pochin, the wealthy Victorian chemist who bought Bodnant in 1874, and landscape designer Edward Milner, who helped shape its early development.

You can also discover the famous Laburnum Arch, the influence of the McLaren family and Lord Aberconway, the creation of the magnificent Italianate terraces, Bodnant’s important collection of rhododendrons and exotic plants, and the extraordinary story of the Pin Mill, dismantled at Woodchester in Gloucestershire and rebuilt at Bodnant in 1938–39.

Along the way there are views of the gardens, terraces, woodland, water features and colourful planting, together with some aerial footage showing Bodnant in its spectacular setting beneath the mountains of North Wales.

You can park on the National Trust car park for free on the east side of Bodnant Road and the Pavillion on the edge of the car park next to the road is good for sustenance and comfort breaks. Also there is a small car park on the same side but further south down Bodnant Road where you can TOAL in relative privacy, but VLOS is limited here. You can use the whole road for TOAL though as its not owned by the National Trust, but I did notice they have Trust staff in buggies going up and down now and then so be prepared to be challenged.
