Dark Sky Viewing Point, Trumpan, Waternish Peninsula, Skye added to Coastal Scenery in Scotland by AlbionDrones on 29/06/2024

Amazing views over the Minch to the Outer Hebrides - when clear - and stunning coastal scenery of Waternish and Dunvegan peninsulas.

Park in the Trumpan Church Car Park and use the fenced-off area with picnic benches for TOAL, check with anyone else present that they are ok with you flying - it is quite remote, but there were people there on both occasions we visited, none had any issue with the drone flying...

Watch out for the MIDGES! They are fierce and have big sharp pointy teeth, either invest in some SMIDGE (other midge repellants are available) or take a sacrificial tasty snack for them, in my case the husband worked well, they seem to like him and will happily go and chase him, leaving me free to fly...

Mount St. Bernard Abbey, North West Leicestershire (By bryand)

You could TOAL from the road outside the monastery, but you get a much better line of sight from the car park. I asked one of the brothers in the bookshop for permission and he was quite happy. I came back at sunset to get the view through the windows in the tower.

The monks found that their dairy farm wasn't making enough to be viable, so they turned to brewing Trappist beers..."Beer should be liquid bread, not coloured water" ... my kind of folk!

Salvington Mill, Worthing (By winglider)

Beautiful old windmill, in a residential area.
There were a couple of guys working on the mill, and they told me that there are signs on the gate asking you not to fly over the mill. They were very polite and one of them even flew a drone himself. I politly told them that they did not own the air space and as my drone was only 249g I could fly it where I wanted. The drone flyer agreed but it was the people living close by were concerned about privacy. And as the chairman of the consevation group he was just trying to keep them on side.
Just thought I would mention it here

Hove Cemetery, Brighton and Hove (By Prawntot)

Hove Cemetery is a pretty stunning location and good for discrete droning without disturbing anyone.

It is also the location of the old railway route which ran from Dyke Junction Halt (now Aldrington Station) to Devil's Dyke Railway Station from 1887 until it closed in 1938.

Part of the line ran around Hove Cemetery, the setting for the attached video and its accompanying song by George Elliott.
