COPP memorial / Hayling Island added to Coastal Scenery in South East by macspite on 24/06/2021

The memorial is a lump of granite (like one of Obelixe's menhirs) on a mound. It commemorates the Combined Operations Pilotage Parties who were based on Hayling during WW2. The unit was formed to develop the use of canoes in warfare, the most famous example of which were the exploits of the "Cockleshell Heroes".

The monument is in one of the seafront car parks with toilets and an ice cream kiosk nearby. The less good news is that the local council considers £6 to park as good for their budget. Also, in summer and with the sun out the beach area becomes very overcrowded. Best visited outside the hours 09:00 to 18:00

/there is a wee narrow gauge railway that "runs" along parallel to the shore - tripod mode is best for matching speed of drone and train. The front offers views over to the Isle of Wight, toward Bognor and along the Solent toward Southampton.

There are 2 pubs, a good chippy and a couple of restaurants within walking istance

This is within the infamous, imaginary and spurious "No Fly Zone" promoted by a website that we do not name. If anyone suggests you should not be flying respond brisjly and with forceful language.

The land is administered by Havant Borough Council. At time of writing (24/06/21) there are no by-laws in force to prevent flying.

Be aware that both Military and Coastguard helicopters often overfly this area at low altitude, model aircraft and other drones may be present and paramotor pilots may fly at 30 feet or less "practising landing"

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 16/06/2020. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location. Landowner permission may be required before taking off.

Beautiful spot for flying and after a long research to make sure it's safe and legal I have decided to give it a go. There is so much more to see in this location including walking all the way up to the Ogmore Castle - and we went there before just without a drone and in another direction you will find a Dunraven Bay with a castle (or a footprint of the castle) I'm not too sure as we didn't get past the parking gate due to only cash accepted.
Parking is available and the earlier you arrive the better

If you are searching for an eye-catching blend of ancient history and sweeping English countryside, Conderton Camp on the southern slopes of Bredon Hill in Worcestershire is worth exploring

Grosmont Station, Scarborough (By D0c.Col)

Grosmont Station is a unique transport hub in North Yorkshire, England. It serves as the vital junction where the heritage North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) connects to the national rail network via the Esk Valley Line. It features a historic 1952-themed setup, active engine sheds, and the 1835 George Stephenson tunnel.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Operates daily from Easter through late October, providing steam and heritage diesel services between Grosmont, Goathland, and Pickering.

The station has a gift shop, Tea Room, accessible public toilets, and a nearby Pay and Display car park. Walking Trails: The 3.5-mile Rail Trail begins here, running along George Stephenson’s original railway line to Goathland and my TOAL was from this trail overlooking the station below.

Cotswold Lavender Farm, Tewkesbury (By fatbaldbloke)

Arial views of the Snowshill/Cotswold Lavender Farm. Saw the purple fields after leaving Broadway Tower and took the drone up to investigate. Went to the actual farm the day after to take some camera shots through the gates.

TOAL was from a lay-by on Buckle Street just a mile or so South of Broadway Tower

Sefton Park Cricket Club, lower pitch, Liverpool (By redhed17)

This is a great are to practice when you get a drone. There is an artificial grass area to take off from and land. The area is enclosed on three sides, and there is hardly anyone walking through the space. It is quite large area to fly around.
