Yellowcraigs Beach (By Natts)

Yellowcraigs is a popular beach about 40mins drive from Edinburgh. In the summer it can get very busy and would likely not be suitable for flying. I have been a few times off season and early evening and have had the beach to myself, especially to the west side where there are views of Fidra light house. The beach is bordered by sun woodland and scrub, high dunes to the east and lots of pleasant walks. There is an obvious car park at the end of the road and from memory it is around £1 (I was cycling last time). I asked about permission at the Caravan Park but they didn’t know

Southbourne Beach (By Tidepool)

Beach flying with good parking other than the height of summer when the beach is very busy. Double yellow lines de restricted from Oct to April from memory, so even better access. Hengistbury Head to the East as seen the pic. Bournemouth beach and town to the West. Views across to Studland and Sandbanks when clear. Lots of cruise liners moored off through 2020. Not a lot more flying to the East as Hengistbury Head is a BCP Council Nature Reserve with drone flying not allowed.

Cuningar Loop Woodland Park (By Drumsagard)

This small woodland park is in the middle of the City of Glasgow on a loop in the middle of the river Clyde. It is owned by Forestry & Land Scotland who allow drone flights from their property. From their website "You’re allowed to fly a drone on Scotland’s national forests and land, as long as you’re following the Civil Aviation Authority’s guidelines, including the Drone Code, and all other legal requirements, such as those relating to privacy/data protection, wildlife disturbance and the Health and Safety at Work Act. The CAA guidelines and Drone Code include the requirement to have your drone in sight at all times, which may not be possible in some forested areas. All pilots must follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and respect other people’s interests, care for the environment and take responsibility for your own actions. If you want to fly drones for professional reasons, please contact the relevant regional office to apply for permission as early as possible in your planning." There is plenty of parking available with access points to the park from both sides of the river. One thing to note though, this park is normally very busy so I'd suggest early morning or late evening flights.

Wormwood Scrubs (By nathankw)

This is an officially marked Model Aircraft field in Wormwood Scrubs - a large area of parkland in West London. The area is confirmed in the council byelaws here: https://bit.ly/2KIEn8p There are a lots of information boards around with various rules (see picture). You're supposed to fly within the marked zone on the map but it's a fair size. Flying is allowed at the following times (unless posted otherwise) Monday – 1pm to 7.30pm Tuesday – 9am to 6pm Wednesday – 4pm to 7.30pm Thursday – 9am to 6pm Friday – 1pm to 7.30pm Saturday – 9.30am to 1pm Sunday – 10am to 1pm WARNINGS: The site is very near Wormwood Scrubs prison which is obviously a no-fly-zone. However the actual forbidden area is only the immediate vicinity of the prison so stay well away and you'll be fine. The whole site is also with the R160 restricted London zone. There's some confusion about exactly what that zone means - but it appears to only apply to helicopters. Indeed - the existence of this officially designated zone within R160 is good evidence that drone flying is allowed within R160. That makes this one of the closest official flying areas to Central London.

Pomona Strand, Manchester (By kvetner)

This is an area of waste ground suitable for flying in Open subcategories A1 and A2. I've positioned the marker to indicate a spot 150m away from the nearest buildings. There are good aerial views towards Manchester city centre, Salford, Media City, Old Trafford etc. Hazards: The area is derelict and sometimes there is anti-social use: I suggest be especially wary after dark. Possibility of drug needles etc on the ground. Accessibility: I parked on Cornbrook Road next to Bennet Brothers (M15 4WB). There is a gap in the fence leading to Pomona Strand. There has been access in the past from Pomona Wharf / Waterways Avenue, and from the south end of Pomona Strand, but I haven't checked these recently.
