Blackberry Camp, East Devon added to English Heritage in South West by gasbag43 on 06/05/2026

Located in East Devon, Blackbury Camp is an Iron Age hill fort that provides a glimpse into prehistoric Britain.

Dating from the 4th century BC, it served as a fortified settlement and a regional hub for tribal power. Unlike many multivallate forts, Blackbury is distinguished by its single, massive vallicula (ditch) and agger (bank), which remain remarkably well-preserved.

It’s a heavily wooded location which means a purely aerial view doesn’t do it full justice. As you can see from the other media I’ve included with this location, under the tree canopy is a large flat open space – 6.5 acres approx – which at the moment is one big carpet of bluebells. It would be easy to fly down into either of the 2 open areas and explore at 2-3 metres from the ground the inner areas of the fort under the top tree cover if you could time it for when there aren’t other visitors on the site. I was there around midday and there were never less than 5 or 6 walking around that made it unsafe to attempt it

While primarily an Iron Age site, archaeological excavations have revealed evidence of activity dating back to the Neolithic period. The site is particularly famous for its unique "barbican" entrance—a complex, defensive gatehouse designed to funnel and trap potential attackers.

Its big – the oval enclosure is roughly 200 metres long and 100 metres wide. The enclosed area is enclosed by a massive bank that is up to 10 metres wide and still stands around 3 metres high. The outer bank is surrounded by a ditch that is up to 12 metres wide.


Today, its managed by English Heritage, and the free car park on site is no more than 2 metres from the outer ditch. TOAL point was a 200 metre walk down the road to a break in the tree cover outside of the English Heritage perimeter.

Beautiful spot for flying and after a long research to make sure it's safe and legal I have decided to give it a go. There is so much more to see in this location including walking all the way up to the Ogmore Castle - and we went there before just without a drone and in another direction you will find a Dunraven Bay with a castle (or a footprint of the castle) I'm not too sure as we didn't get past the parking gate due to only cash accepted.
Parking is available and the earlier you arrive the better

If you are searching for an eye-catching blend of ancient history and sweeping English countryside, Conderton Camp on the southern slopes of Bredon Hill in Worcestershire is worth exploring

Grosmont Station, Scarborough (By D0c.Col)

Grosmont Station is a unique transport hub in North Yorkshire, England. It serves as the vital junction where the heritage North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) connects to the national rail network via the Esk Valley Line. It features a historic 1952-themed setup, active engine sheds, and the 1835 George Stephenson tunnel.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Operates daily from Easter through late October, providing steam and heritage diesel services between Grosmont, Goathland, and Pickering.

The station has a gift shop, Tea Room, accessible public toilets, and a nearby Pay and Display car park. Walking Trails: The 3.5-mile Rail Trail begins here, running along George Stephenson’s original railway line to Goathland and my TOAL was from this trail overlooking the station below.

Cotswold Lavender Farm, Tewkesbury (By fatbaldbloke)

Arial views of the Snowshill/Cotswold Lavender Farm. Saw the purple fields after leaving Broadway Tower and took the drone up to investigate. Went to the actual farm the day after to take some camera shots through the gates.

TOAL was from a lay-by on Buckle Street just a mile or so South of Broadway Tower

Sefton Park Cricket Club, lower pitch, Liverpool (By redhed17)

This is a great are to practice when you get a drone. There is an artificial grass area to take off from and land. The area is enclosed on three sides, and there is hardly anyone walking through the space. It is quite large area to fly around.
