You cannot fly because:

  • You cannot fly this flight legally within the Open Category based on the information you have given.
  • You have said you want to fly directly above uninvolved people, but your drone is not small or class-marked enough for Over People (A1) operations.
  • To fly directly above uninvolved people you would normally need a drone under 250g or with a suitable UK0/UK1 or C0/C1 class mark, and you must never fly over crowds.
  • You have said that your drone may come closer than 30m to uninvolved people. With this type of drone you must keep at least 30m (and in some cases 50m) away from uninvolved people.
  • You have chosen an industrial, commercial or residential area. With this drone and these qualifications you would normally need to fly in a non-urban location or further away from built-up areas.
  • Consider changing where you fly, increasing your distance from people, using a lighter drone, or obtaining an A2 CofC or an appropriate Operational Authorisation from CAA.
  • From 1st January 2028, you will need to fit a Remote ID transmitter to continue flying this legacy or self-built aircraft in the Open Category.
  • You should ensure you have suitable Public Liability Insurance cover in place in case of an accident.
