Titchfield abbey Hampshire (By Kirky)

Titchfield abbey,
What a stunning place which I only stumbled upon when watching the weather & a viewer had posted a photo, up until then I had never heard of or seen this place & I'm so glad I made it there for a visit, such a peaceful place set in gorgeous surroundings, TOAL & park is so easy, I visited the abbey before I done my drone shots & spoke to a few locals in & around the abbey, I told them why I was there & mentioned drone / Ariel photography & was said no better place for it, very friendly indeed & I can think of nothing negative at all to say about this place what so ever, it is open to the public so I guess it can get busy at times so if & when flying do be mindful of that, & around the abbey has many places to TOAL no problems at all,
Gorgeous place & would visit again.
Added links as there’s lot of history on this place.

Tottenham House Great Bedwyn Wiltshire (By Kirky)

Tottenham house is a grade 1 listed English country house it sits between great bedwyn & Savernake forest, I’ve been meaning to try & fly this location for a while but had not realised it was under construction, after not wanting a wasted journey I still proceeded to fly,
I did do a bit of research on google & I shall add a couple of links, from what I’ve seen this place looks amazing when in tip top condition & would like to re visit when all work is done,
TOAL & parking was very easy I parked at saint Katherine's church great bedwyn, parked in a car park at the side of the church & walked down a bit of a muddy single track road remembering the location was to my left, where I then cut up through some trees which on looks towards the location, only thing you have to be really carful of is the over hanging trees which you can’t get away from, I hand launched the drone then hovered & slowly moved out from under the trees over a field,
I’m not sure when the renovation will be complete but that’s when it will be worth another visit,

Hardwick House Oxfordshire (By Kirky)

Hardwick House, sitting on the river Thames set in a gorgeous surrounding,
Rumour has it this has some history to do with the novel the wind in the willows by Kenneth Grahame I shall attach link,
I found a choice of three TOAL & park locations all involve a bit of a walk I shall add them all, walk was harder as when I visited all the fields are bogged out with the rain we’ve been having so would advise this more when the weather is better, all in a nice location, I did stumble across some pheasants & kites once I was halfway across the field but they moved away & was no problem,
I would visit again but only when the weather is better, be cautious of overhead electricity cables nearby.

Mapledurham House (By Kirky)

Mapledurham house,
A really nice place which is open to the public as a tourist attraction, was very quiet when I visited but can get busy as I know this place well, a few things have been filmed in & around here shall add wiki link,
Parking & TOAL is no problem of which you have one of two locations, one just means a 5 minute walk, as the other you can literally pull up if your driving & pretty much fly with no hassles, also an old water mill & church sits right by, is a lovely place.

Englefield house / estate Berkshire, this place has a stunning park around it & is open to the public most days, a little cafe next door & a small garden centre just a tiny little village which is so peaceful, I have been wanting to fly here for ages but TOAL is a problem unless you have a sub 250g drone or your A2cofc then it is much easier, was very quiet when I attended but no this place can get really busy ( especially weekends ) well worth a visit, do be mindful of dog walkers & public, great location, a few things have been filmed here I shall add wiki link but I believe there’s more when you search the history of this place,

The Pepper Box, Salisbury (By Kirky)

The Pepper Box, pepper box hill, Salisbury SP5 3QL.

A nice little place with gorgeous surroundings, a shame the day was very moody when visiting, stunning views all around that I can only imagine are even better on a nicer day, however i did not let this put me off,
The pepper box is on national trust but TOAL was literally 40 - 50 feet across the road off there land, I parked in the car park at the location & walked across the car park then across the cattle grid taking me across the road, where there is a gate slightly set back where's there's an entrance to a big field, I stayed this side of gate on some grass, great thing to the subject was only about 60 - 70 foot away from TOAL point,
was not overly busy but can imagine it does get busy so do be mindful if visiting, dog walkers, family etc, in all just a nice little place; well worth a visit.

Shipham Hill Quarry (By Kirky)

At the top of the gorge near cheddar, 360 degree stunning views, bit of a nightmare to find this one when using the sat nav, which takes you to warrens hill ( where there is not entry for the quarry ) ignore warrens hill & head for mendips raceway, warrens hill road shipham, there is two sides to warrens hill, so its easier to head for the raceway which will take you there, go past the raceway & you will see places to Toal to your left & right, I Toal'd at the side of a farmers field down the bottom to my right, where the owner turned up in his tractor & was absolutely fine, he got out of his tractor & wanted to talk about his drone he got for Christmas, looked at my screen & said there amazing things,
Apart from that there was no one there, you may get the odd car or van pull up which I see twice at first, I'm assuming just people on a break or a little rest or admiring the views,
gorgeous place would visit again as there's many other lovely places nearby.

NOTE, when you Toal from anywhere within this vicinity do be extra carful as when you are facing west / south west behind you is bristol airports FRZ which is between 900 - 1000 metres behind you.

Whatley Quarry, Frome (By Kirky)

This place has absolutely breath taking views, situated in Frome, TOAL & parking is an absolute walk in the park.

Where I’ve placed the marker, park there at the end, (if you’re driving) then to your left is an entrance to a bridal way & a small piece of woodland, you walk up through the woods & to your left it opens up to a set of about a dozen shallow steps & you have perfect 180 views at the top, it is fenced off & very safe.

Directions, head to Frome to a place called Mells, you look for a road called Knaptons Hill, do a left onto Holes lane where a few yards down the road you see a cross road with an old red telephone box there, do a left at the junction opposite the red phone box (can’t find a name of the road) single track road you will go along which comes to a dead end which is fine to park, easy to turn around too.

It was completely deserted when I was there but a breath of fresh air, I can imagine it may get people, and dog walkers in & around at times so be mindful of that, but myself & my friend who is from that area, she said it is always very quiet & many many places in the area alike, worth a visit any day !

Stunning place.

Purfleet Heritage & Military Centre (By Kirky)

Purfleet on Thames Essex, has some stunning views across the Thames towards London Canary Wharf & towards tilbury docks, when I attended it was very very windy but still lots of people out, public walking dogs, family walks & taking in the views with a stroll along the embankment, was quite busy given the weather was not great, can imagine it being much nicer in the better weather, spoke to a few people whilst I was there, all seemed very fascinated by the drone & was very friendly, if I’m ever in this area again I would like to go back, did not stay long due to the windy weather & the drone bouncing around in the wind like mad, being a 795 gram drone I can only imagine today a sun 250g drone would have been mayhem, so if you decide to visit with a smaller drone do check the weather first, I went specifically to photograph the 26 soldiers silhouettes but there is a military museum there at this location as in the title, easy parking & lots of open space, a very nice little place in all, do be mindful of public if & when flying as I’m sure it does get busier,

Stack Rock Fort (By Kirky)

Stunning location, can get busy with public but all seemed very friendly, a few little cafes around and lovely places to walk as well as fly, just have to be mindful of public & dog walkers etc.

TOAL would be much easier with sub 250g drone but I managed to find a little spot out of the way on the east side as suppose to the west, just before you get to the RNLI.

Love this place, would always go back, stunning!

Broadmoor hospital crowthorne Berkshire (By Kirky)

This place has very peaceful surroundings & places to walk, i TOAL’D from a nearby meadow on the corner of south road, where there is a gate to open fields & landscape, it was very quiet just a dog walker or two, so do be mindful of public, I did call the hospital out of courtesy to let them know I would be flying nearby, they were totally fine & just asked not to fly directly over the hospital & respect there privacy, the surroundings of the hospital are actually gorgeous with also many tall pine / cedar trees & just very calm, if you do plan to fly be carful to TOAL from the correct spot as there is quite a bit of sssi around you which you can see on drone scene , I would visit again.

Port talbot wales / steel works / Tata (By Kirky)

Port talbot steel works also know as TATA, what a massive & stunning place, a true example of industry, I forgot how beautiful wales itself is on my drive, I shall return for other poi nearby, TOAL was very very easy & the few public about are / were very friendly, a few ground hazards so bear that in mind, there are other places to TOAL I noticed, where you can get nearer to the steel works, had it have not been so cold I would have stayed till night time, as this place lights up like a Christmas tree, with a sub 250g drone you could get even closer to the steel works, that said it’s so big, this place would make good for someone with video skills with their drone, this place is a must, best place I’ve visited since I’ve been flying drones.

Mongewell Jewish boarding school, Carmel college & ruins, Wallingford Oxfordshire (By Kirky)

An Old Jewish boarding school with lots of history so I’ll add a link, @ Wallingford Oxfordshire, it also goes by the name of Carmel college synagogue, has an amphitheatre & other interesting history, you have to be very carful when planning your flight here, although I was not in a FRZ but I was only approx 100 feet away away from RAF benson’s FRZ, I felt courtesy to submit a flight report as it is so close to a restricted zone, we’re I TOAL’D from was next to a church ruins ( St John the baptist ), to the side of the church is a pond that over looks the derelict school / college, TOAL was very awkward due to being surrounded by trees so be mindful of that, it was very quiet & a nice place to visit, which I also visited the church, it was very very windy when I visited so I cut my flight short, however I will return on a calmer day, i did notice when leaving, before you walk through the church gate on entry side, there is an area that would be better for TOAL, so that would be my plan when I go back.

Winchester cathedral (By Kirky)

Winchester cathedral in Hampshire,
The Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity,[2] Saint Peter, Saint Paul and Saint Swithun,[3] commonly known as Winchester Cathedral, is the cathedral of the city of Winchester, England, and is among the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. The cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of Winchester and is the mother church for the ancient Diocese of Winchester. It is run by a dean and chapter, under the Dean of Winchester.
A gorgeous place to visit on any day, can be very very busy so be mindful of that, parking can be a bit of a nightmare too but I wouldn’t be put off by that, TOAL is very very limited unless you have a sub 250g drone, permission may be able to be obtained to fly within the grounds by emailing the cathedral your reasons for doing so with time & date, a conversation I had with the admin there they said this should not be a problem but please check first or TOAL off the premises as I did on this occasion, TOAL was just at the side of college walk where a path meets a small meadow, check for hazards too.

Douai Abbey (By Kirky)

Douai Abbey, located in west Berkshire at Upper Woolhampton, a very quiet bit of countryside with this gorgeous landmark, which is, a Roman Catholic monastery of monks of the English Benedictine Congregation, under the patronage of Saint Edmund, King and Martyr. Very quiet when I attended, just a few dog walkers so be mindful, TOAL just over the road from the abbey at a park / tennis club, a really nice location. With a sub 250g drone, TOAL would be easier.
